How to Record Screen in Windows 10

1. Record screen using Xbox bar ( with audio)

You can easily able to record your Windows 10 and 11 screens using the Xbox game bar that is built-in into the Windows system.

While the Xbox game bar is designed to record game screens you can use it to record anything on your Windows screen, and it works well for that.

It will give you control over recording quality and have the option to record external audio if the user wants.

Let's see how you can use the Xbox game bar in Windows 10

Firstly you need to turn on Xbox game bar access on Windows PC,

Open settings by pressing window+ I

Click on the gaming option 

In-game bar section turn on the game bar toggle 

Once done click on the capture section here you can set the file save location for your recorded screen using the game bar.

Click on the recorded audio toggle to record audio while recording screen.

You have the option to choose frame rate, video quality, and audio quality.

Once done close settings press the window+ G key to open the Xbox game bar and click on the record button to record your screen.

Here are some shortcuts you can use in the Xbox game bar to take more advantage of that,

1. Take screenshot -  window+ alt+PrtScr

2. Record - window+ alt+ G

3. Start or stop record - windows+ alt + R

4. Microphone on or off - window+alt+M

5. Show camera in broadcast - window+ alt +W

Xbox game bar and shortcuts work the same either Windows 10 or Windows 11. 

2. Record the screen using the snipping tool ( only Windows 11 )

You can easily record your Windows 11 screen using the snipping tool. It is available in Windows 11 by default but if not then you can download it from the Microsoft Store.

While the snipping tool is known for its screenshot-taking capabilities in new windWindowsit has a screen recorder feature as well.

To record screen,

1. Open the snipping tool by pressing windows+ shift+ S

2. In the top pop-up toolbar press on the camera icon then click new

3. Drag the rectangle to select the recording area

4. Press start and within 3 seconds your screen will start recording.

After the recording is done you can click stop to save the recording in the video folder.

Here are some drawbacks of recording screen using a snipping tool,

1. Only support mp4

2. No option to record audio 

3. There are no shortcuts to directly record or stop recording.

4. Screen recorder feature only available in Windows 11 

3. Record screen using third-party tools
